Providence House began in 1979 when four sisters offered a place to stay for a mother who was being released from prison and reuniting with her young child. Over the past 25 years there have been more than 7,000 women who have lived at one of our five Providence Houses in Brooklyn, Queens, and New Rochelle. Our ultimate goal is to allow women to become self-sufficient and create lives of stability for themselves and their children. Volunteers support our mission by performing a variety of tasks:

  • Assisting with annual Thanksgiving & Christmas drives

  • Household repairs (painting, minor repairs, cleaning)
  • Tutoring

  • Creating Arts, crafts & cooking projects

  • Gardening maintenance
